Who you surround yourself with is what you will become. Mindsets are contagious. Evaluate your circle of people. Do you want to catch the mindsets they have? Does your environment add value or deplete from your goals? Get around people who make you better. You have to put yourself in a growth environment.
How do you build your growth environment?
Remove the bad seeds. In order to level up, you have to subtract your distractions, and you know what those are. Failure to remove the root issues and dig up those bad seeds will affect you negatively. It is like cancer. In sports we used to say that if you keep even the smallest cancer on the team—a person who is negative, a person who is always complaining—then that cancer is going to spread. It is the same thing for your life. Get the mindsets away from you that do not serve and help you. Remove the people from your life who do not add value to your life. Sometimes the best way to add to your life is to subtract from it.
Plant new seeds. Become intentional about your life. Start putting yourself in the right environments. Develop better daily habits and routines.
Lastly, water those seeds. Recruit the mindsets that make you better. I purposely put myself in environments where I know that I am the least accomplished. Because I know that if I am in an environment where I am the least accomplished, I will have no choice but to grow. If there is someone that is at a higher fitness level, I make sure to spend time around that person. If there is somebody better at business than me, I spend time around that person. If there is somebody who has built a family structure that I admire, I spend time around that person.
You have decided to commit yourself and build your growth environment; so now what? Now you have to apply these traits every day.
Anchor your actions in greatness so that on a daily basis you produce nothing less than your very best.
It is not enough to be committed and disciplined if you are not consistent. Think of a weight loss journey. You can be committed to your purpose of getting healthier, but still only work out sometimes. You can replace all the junk food in your pantry with healthy options, but still only eat right sometimes. Sometimes might be only when you are inspired or motivated. And sometimes is not going to get you results. Sometimes is not going to change your life. You have to show up regardless of how it feels.
I know that some people reading this think they are not a consistent person, but they try their best. The misconception is that you may think you have consistency problem when actually it is that you lack commitment.
You are probably very consistent. Think about everything you have been consistent about within your everyday life. You were consistent in going to school. You have been consistent in going to a job every day. You have been consistent taking care of your kids. The reason you have been consistent is that you understand the cost if you do not show up.
Every day I plant seeds. Every day I trust the process. And every day I grew, even if I don’t realize it.
The problem is not in being consistent; rather it is in being committed. You are consistent in those things that you have given a bigger reason. You are consistent when you know the cost of not doing what you need to do. So look back at commitment and re-evaluate your reason, your why.
I promise you this: When the consistency is great enough, the struggle will never be strong enough. You will find your way, because you understand what awaits on the other side. You will go through fear, because you understand the repercussions if you don’t show up. Somebody is depending on your story. Somebody is depending on you in your life. Realize you have to show up no matter how you feel.
Even with epic consistency, you will not achieve your biggest goals right away. And on the way to them, you will have setbacks. How do you keep your championship winning mindset?
Believe the odds are beatable even when the odds say it is impossible. Trust the process.
What you are working on is not going to change immediately. Yes, you have been going through the pain, putting in the work, and you keep doing it. But you don’t necessarily know when the winning moment will come.
A gardener has faith in the process of gardening. They know they need to plant the seed, take care of it and be patient. Have faith like the gardener and know that if you do the work necessary, stay committed and consistent, then at some point the results will show up.
At some point, everything will change. Nothing happens overnight, but everything can change overnight. Be ready.
Success mindsets understand that the process must be trusted. You cannot take shortcuts in the process. Some of us want to get there so fast. However, the definition of the gardener’s mindset is this: “You have to know growth is taking place even though you cannot see it.” You must trust that you are doing the right thing although you cannot physically see it. Heart is looking at life like a marathon. Those who win marathons use each one of these traits in the race. They were committed. They trained and eliminated distractions. They know they can’t sprint to an easy win, so they put faith in every step, until toward the very end they have to pull from everything they have to get through the finish line.
You will reach that point where you have done everything you can, your back is against the wall, and you feel like you have nothing left to give. This is the moment you break through, and create new limits you did not think possible. That is what heart is all about. It’s saying, “I am giving my all to this no matter what it is; no matter what it looks like, I’m going to keep pushing.”
Heart is also about staying true to yourself. When you go through all the ups and downs that you have and you finally reach success, it is easy to become hardened. People will take notice. You are starting to close the gap between vision and reality. Your vision is no longer just a thought in your mind, but it is taking form. Ditch the boring [name] [title] [phone number] email signature. Add a bit more excitement to your signature with a link to a relevant article, a case study, or an event your company has participated in. Be creative. Your prospects will notice.
5. Follow up more
Don’t give up after your first email. Not getting a reply doesn’t necessarily mean your prospects aren’t interested. It could simply mean they were busy the day you sent the initial email – or deleted it by accident. This could happen to the best of us. You’ll need to decide which page type is best for you as each type has different benefits & drawbacks.
For our example I’ll choose “Local Business or Place”
Step 3: Choose a Category
If you choose a page type other than Cause or Community then you’ll need to choose a category for your page.
You’re category is VERY important with Graph Search — so choose wisely so people can find you easier.
Just click the dropdown and you’ll be given plenty of choices.
For our example I’ll choose “Restaurant/Cafe”.
Step 4 : Choose Your Business Name
Pretty simple — yet SUPER important. Enter your exact business name here.
Keep in mind people need to be able to find your business in Graph Search — so choose the name people know you by. Some “experts” recommend that you add keywords to you business name.
I think this is a mistake.
If your business is “burgers r us” then name your page that, not “Burger, Fries & Sodas in Texas”.
Plus if your page name is too generic, Facebook could take it over as a “Community” page — which limits the page features.
In the example above you’ll notice I’ve entered an address & phone number. This is only necessary if you select “Local Business or Place” — all other page types require only the Category & Business name.
Step 5: Agree to Facebook Pages Terms
To proceed further in creating your page you must agree to Facebook’s terms.
It’s a good idea to read over these terms every few months, as Facebook is constantly tweaking them.
As a page owner, this is info you should definitely stay familiar with.
Step 6: Click “Get Started”
Now that you’ve followed the first 5 steps it’s time to “Get Started”. So click the blue button.
Step 7: Set Up Page
Here’s where the fun starts!
You can choose to fill out this info or you can skip it. The best thing to do is fill it out now.
The info will show up on your “About” page and in the “About” section on your page’s Timeline.
You’ll need to enter the following:
Category — No dropdown here, just type in the category you want to associate with (important in Graph Search)
Add a description — This will show on your Timeline as the “About Section” — unless you’ve chosen a Local Business
Website — Let people know how to find you online outside of Facebook
Facebook then asks you “Is XYZ business a real establishment, business or venue”? Kind of a dumb question, but check Yes anyway.
Once you select Yes, Facebook will ask you “Will XYZ business be the authorized and official representation of this establishment, business or venue on Facebook?”.
Again seems like a dumb question, but check Yes — unless you’re setting up a fan page for a TV show or celebrity and aren’t the official brand representative.
Once you’re finished with the above info, you’ll see something like this:
Notice how I selected multiple categories and Facebook gives me more to choose from.
Select the ones that apply & click the “Save Info” button.
Step 8: Add Profile Picture
Here you need to upload an image from your computer or import from a website:
Your image needs to be at least 180 pixels wide in order for Facebook to accept it.
Upload your image & click “Next”.
Step 9: Like Your Page
Facebook will now walk you through a few steps.
The first one directs you to Like your page:
If you aren’t ready for people to see your page it’s probably best to hold off on Liking it just yet.
I clicked “Skip”.
Step 10: Invite Your Email Contacts
This is a great way to get your initial burst of Likes.
But as mentioned above, if your page isn’t 100% ready for primetime I’d hold off on inviting people just yet.
Step 11: Share Something
At this point Facebook considers your business page ready to go & encourages you to share a status update to your Timeline.
But if you don’t have any Likes yet, no one will see it — unless they come to your Timeline later.
You might consider posting a “Welcome” image or greeting. But posting any sort of important link or other update might be a waste — seeing as you have no fans yet!
Step 12: Add a Cover
Facebook doesn’t prompt you to upload a cover photo like it does all of the other setup features. But you should definitely add a cover to your page — otherwise it looks like it’s not ready for business.
Your cover needs to be 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall & less than 100 kb to get the best load time.
Groups are meant to be a close circle of people who share and keep in touch on Facebook.
People tend to create them around things like:
Books (think of it like a book club)
Their business (sort of like an “insider’s club”)
To sell items locally
Exclusive membership site

Once you determine why you want to use one and how it will help promote and support one or several of the above, it’s time to create your own Facebook Group.

How to Create a Facebook Group
1. Find “Add Group”
From your “home page” on Facebook go to the Explore – Groups section on the left side menu and click on, “Groups.”
Once you get there, it will look like this:

You’ll be taken to a page that displays the option to create a group as well as showing you some:

To begin the process of creating a group, click “Create Group” in the upper right hand corner.
Facebook also offers an alternate way to create a new group
Right of your name and the notifications bell in the right hand corner, click on the drop down and choose, “Create Group.”
Once you choose that option, a lightbox will open where you can begin to add your Facebook group details.
3. Name Your Group
The first thing you need to do is give your group a name — I’m naming my group “Scott Secret Group”.
This name can be whatever you want and you can change it later. But try to make the group name memorable and searchable — so people can find it.
4. Add Members
Facebook does something odd here — and out of order, in my opinion.
You’re actually required to add at least 1 friend to the group before you can create it. If you don’t you get the error. So in order to create your group, you’ll need to add at least 1 friend to the group.
5. Choose Privacy Setting
You’ll now need to decide what privacy setting you want your group to have.
This is probably the most important choice you’ll make while creating your group — as there are some limits to changing down the road.
If you have fewer than 5000 members you’ll be able to change the settings as you see fit.
But as soon as your groups grows to over 5000 members, you can only change an Open group to Closed or Secret — and a Closed group to Secret.
You won’t be able to change the privacy again after this.
